Warmth is Good for You

Pictures of this… leave us with sweet longings for this.

We’ve already had snow storms and school closings; we’ve seen the normally long lines at Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts get ever longer. In this time of cold, a warm beverage seems not just right, but necessary. And as researchers are finding, physical warmth may help increase our mental warmth.

In an intriguing study, Drs. Lawrence Williams and John Bargh have found that people who are holding warm beverages are more likely to judge others as having “warmer” personalities, as well as being more likely to give to others rather than to make purchases for themselves.

Physical warmth leading to psychological warmth? If only this link could be strengthened on a global scale. Hand out hot chocolate to the wealthiest in the world and see if we could cut the rate of poverty in half. The idea is tantalizing, even if only a dream.

While we at NICABM can not claim to have a miracle solution for world poverty, we hope that we are doing our part to improve general psychological warmth of those around us.

We have many programs that help you can enhance your practice (so that you can help more people learn to heal). Click here to check out our programs.
