GLP-1s and Alcohol Use: What the Early Research Shows

Could a medication commonly used for diabetes and weight loss also change a person’s drinking habits?

New research suggests that it might.

In this video, Arpan Patel, MD, walks through what a recent randomized trial found about GLP-1 medications and alcohol use.

Take a look. It’s just over 4 minutes.

As Arpan described, the research on GLP-1s and alcohol use is still early.

A single trial isn’t the same as an approved treatment, and there’s a lot we don’t know yet (including what happens when a patient stops taking the medication).

Still, it’s a fast-moving area, and one worth understanding before a client brings it up.

And now I’d like to hear from you. Where in your practice have you had conversations with a client regarding GLP-1 medications? What were they interested in finding out?

Please leave a comment below. And thanks for watching.
