Suicidality and High-Risk Behaviors: A Trauma-Informed Approach

What to say, how to say it, and when to say it

Person silhouette sitting on the cracked floorPerson silhouette sitting on the cracked floorTrauma is one of the leading risk factors for suicide. So why isn’t it covered in most suicide prevention trainings?

It’s a glaring omission when it comes to clinical preparedness. That’s why we’ve once again teamed up with two world-renowned innovators in the field of trauma – Ruth Lanius, MD, PhD and Bethany Brand, PhD.

Through extensive research, clinical work, and client feedback, they’ve refined a step-by-step approach to treat suicidality and high-risk behaviors that stem from trauma.

And in this workshop, they’ll share exactly what you need to do when your client is at their most desperate – including what to say, how to say it, and when to say it.

— New Short Course —

A Trauma-Informed Approach to Suicidality and Self-Harm

Through decades of research and clinical experience, Ruth Lanius, MD, PhD and Bethany Brand, PhD have honed their Finding Solid Ground program – a unique approach crafted with feedback from patients with complex trauma.

Their program includes a framework for working with clients whose high-risk behaviors stem from traumatic experiences (something they noticed was often missing from suicide prevention trainings).

In this workshop, Ruth and Bethany will share:

  • How to Work with Suicidality in Clients with Dissociated Parts
  • The Early, Intermediate, and Dire Warning Signs of Suicidality (and What to Do When They Appear)
  • How to Differentiate Between Suicidality and Self-Harm
  • Two Tactile Systems Relevant to Trauma (and How They Can Help Regulate Arousal)
  • How to Regulate Clients When Feeling Safe Signals Danger
  • Roleplays That Demonstrate Exactly What to Say to Your Client and How to Say It

The live workshop will take place on Thursday, January 16th from 1-4pm Eastern Time.

There will be opportunities to ask Ruth and Bethany your questions during the Q&A portions of the workshop.

Now if you can’t attend live, we’ve got you covered – because your registration also includes the video recording and transcript of the presentation. You can watch or follow along at your own pace (and everything is yours to keep forever).

  • The transcript makes it easy to go back and double check concepts, citations and names that are mentioned
  • We put in a table of contents to make it easy for you to find the exact part of the webinar you need
  • Having the concepts already written allows you to take notes on how you’re going to use the ideas rather than transcribing the ideas
  • Some people simply learn better by reading than by listening or watching
  • You will be able to print out and share techniques presented in the session with your patients

Angela Lawrence

“I really liked being able to follow along with the transcripts as I listened…it was nice not to feel like I had to take notes. I really feel like I remember more when I both hear and see at the same time.”

Mary Ellen McNaughton, Masters in Counseling, Psychology Counselor
