Every couple's therapist knows the frustration firsthand: when one partner finally starts doing what the other had longed for, the complaining partner begins to reject the very thing that he or she had previously requested. Why is this response common, and how can the therapist deal with it effectively? Together we'll explore this resistance to love, rooted in the childhood fear of retaliation for receiving what we've been told we wouldn't and shouldn't get. You'll learn Imago methods for teaching partners to accept without judgment each others' self-disclosures that can heal this unconscious form of self-hatred and open a new pathway to authentic connection. |
