Main Conference - Session 4
Friday, December 8, 9:30-11:00am

408
PTSD and the Neurobiology of Disconnection

Amy Banks, MD

Interpersonal violence may cause long standing damage to many aspects of a person's life. While religious beliefs, physical health and cognitive functioning can be altered, it is often the destruction of relational trust that is the biggest barrier to healing. This workshop will explore the biological impact of trauma and abuse on our brains and bodies, and then how the dysregulated chemistry of PTSD can dramatically change behaviors and ultimately relationships. Specific strategies for balancing the chemistry in early stage trauma work will be presented as a way to facilitate movement back into healthy relationship where deeper healing can take place.
