Beyond Pain Management:
Halting the Cycle of Chronic Back Pain

Ronald D. Siegel, PsyD

To the surprise of doctors and patients alike, recent scientific research is reversing what health professionals have long assumed to be the cause of chronic back pain. While usually attributed to damaged disks or other structures of the spine, new evidence points to a cycle of psychological stress, muscle tension, and fear-based avoidance of activity that is the true cause for the vast majority of sufferers. This workshop will introduce the Back Sense program--a step-by-step, mind/body approach that integrates advances in rehabilitation medicine with psychodynamic, behavioral, and mindfulness-based techniques. Participants will learn how to free their patients from chronic back, neck, and sciatic pain without surgery or other costly treatments.
