Awakening at Midlife
Kathleen Brehony, PhD
Some call it a crisis. Others call it a new lease on
life. While eluding easy description, the midlife transition
process touches everyone. In this workshop, the
psychological, physical, relational, and professional
symptoms that accompany the transition at midlife will be
introduced, and the range of individual experiences with
their common elements will be noted. We'll consider the
outer challenges often experienced at midlife - loss of job,
separation/divorce, serious illness, aging parents, "empty
nest" syndrome, dealing with issues of loss and mortality,
health issues, and the emergence of unconscious material -
and how all of these work in tandem with inner psychological
and spiritual challenges to define the developmental stage
of midlife. |
